About the Role:
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of 4–10 engineers embedded in one of our core product engineering verticals. You’ll own both the people and the output — coaching engineers, driving execution, and setting a high technical bar across the team.
This is a role for someone who has already managed engineers and knows what good looks like: a team that ships with confidence, owns what it builds, and continuously raises the bar. You’ll work closely with Product and other engineering leaders to translate roadmap priorities into well-designed, well-delivered software, while building a team culture grounded in ownership, craft, and collaboration.
Team Leadership & People Development
Lead, grow, and manage a team of 4–10 engineers, with prior hands-on experience managing a team of similar size required.
Conduct regular 1:1s, set clear expectations, and provide structured, actionable feedback tied to the engineering career ladder.
Own performance reviews and development plans; actively support engineers in progressing through the career ladder.
Participate in hiring and help grow the team in line with product ambitions and company growth.
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement — your team builds it, your team owns it.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Maintain a strong technical presence: participate in design reviews, challenge architectural decisions, and hold the team to high engineering standards.
Contribute meaningfully to system architecture discussions across the vertical, balancing pragmatism with long-term maintainability and scalability.
Identify and drive the reduction of technical debt before it becomes a delivery or reliability risk.
Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure development.
Lead the adoption of AI tooling into the team’s development workflow — from coding assistants to intelligent review and testing pipelines — and help the team use these tools effectively and responsibly.
Delivery & Execution
Own end-to-end delivery for the team’s work: planning, scoping, sequencing, and shipping.
Ensure the team delivers predictably, at a sustainable pace, and with a quality bar that reflects pride in the product.
Proactively surface blockers, risks, and dependencies, and resolve them before they impact delivery.
Track and improve engineering health metrics — deployment frequency, MTTR, test coverage, and cycle time.
Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Product Managers to shape requirements, challenge assumptions, and push toward simpler, more maintainable solutions.
Ensure your team has the context they need to make good decisions — on trade-offs, timelines, and technical constraints.
Represent engineering confidently in cross-functional discussions, translating technical realities into language that matters to stakeholders.
Collaborate with other engineering managers and senior engineers to maintain consistency in practices and standards across teams.
What You Bring
Demonstrated experience managing a software engineering team of 4–10 engineers, including performance management, career development, and hiring.
A strong engineering background: you can engage meaningfully with system design, architectural trade-offs, and code quality without needing to write production code daily.
Experience working in fast-growing technology companies where the roadmap, the team, and the requirements evolve quickly and simultaneously.
Proven track record of integrating AI tooling into engineering workflows — not just awareness of the tools, but practical experience driving their adoption and measuring their impact.
Solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native architectures, and the trade-offs that come with building at scale.
Experience in FinTech, financial services, or other regulated industries is a strong plus.
Clear, confident communication: you can write a crisp technical proposal, run a tight planning session, and give direct feedback with empathy.
A builder’s mindset: you care about the outcome, not just the process, and you instill that in your team.
You Will Excel If You…
Believe the best engineering managers make their teams better — technically, culturally, and operationally.
Thrive in environments where the ground shifts, but can still anchor your team with clarity and calm.
Think about ownership as a feature: your team doesn’t hand off problems, it solves them.
Are energized by close collaboration with Product — pushing back where needed, aligning quickly, and moving forward together.
Have a point of view on AI’s role in modern software development and have put that view into practice.
Can hold the long-term architectural vision and the short-term delivery reality in your head at the same time.
Know the difference between pragmatic and sloppy, and won’t compromise on the former to avoid the latter.
